📘 Why We Require Your ID Number

South African customs law (SARS Customs & Excise Rules 1995, updated April 2024) requires your 13-digit ID or passport number to clear any parcel imported for personal use. This is part of SARS’s effort to stop illegal imports, ensure fair tax, and match parcels to individuals.

  • Some companies bypass the rule by shipping bulk containers and then separate the orders once they are in the country.

  • Others may not declare parcels properly or falsely label them as gifts, which used to not apply to this law but SARS have been cracking down on this.
